Futures Studies in Criminal Justice and the Rationale of International Governance: A Study on the Effects of the Globalization of Criminal Law

Future management is regarded as one of the fundamental strategies for governing human societies. Futures studies aim to explore and assess the possible scenarios of the future that may materialize. Building a desirable future, in addition to a proper understanding of the elements of a social phenomenon, requires familiarity with the principles and foundations of futures thinking. A key question that arises in this context is whether such an essential concept holds a place within the framework of criminal law. This descriptive-analytical study, based on library sources, seeks to answer the question of what benefits and drawbacks the globalization of criminal law brings to the recognition and identification of norms in domestic legal systems. The central hypothesis of this paper posits that international law, through the globalization of its norms, has transformed national legislations—particularly in the field of criminal law. Legal systems have adopted international norms aligned with their own values to achieve better criminal governance. Conversely, there are other international norms that do not align with a nation’s value system. In such cases, this inconsistency stems from three main barriers: cultural relativism, conflict of rights, and public expectations. Ultimately, the study concludes that the best approach to addressing these challenges is either to prioritize domestic legal considerations or to reconcile the two frameworks.

The transportation sector plays a vital and often overlooked role in a country’s food security. Efficient and reliable transportation is critical at every stage of the food supply chain, from farm to home. A reliable transportation system is a vital pillar of national food security. Transportation technology plays an important role in increasing the country’s food security by optimizing efficiency, minimizing waste, and increasing accessibility throughout the entire food supply chain. According to the review of citation databases, there is a theoretical gap in the research topic. Examining global trends to avoid any surprises and enable timely response to challenges is an important need that should be monitored and reported in specialized think tanks. This research, using the trend research method, seeks to examine existing propositions and determine trends. Its findings include global technology trends, major world events, important actions taken, and technology drivers in the field of transportation.
Future Studies and New Technologies in Climate Change

The use of future studies and new technologies in climate change has many positive effects. By using new technologies such as smart irrigation systems, smart agriculture, and water resource management, the vulnerability of different sectors to climate change is reduced. New technologies such as intelligent notification and tracking systems for managing natural crises such as floods, droughts, and fires, help society's resistance to these crises and increase their efficiency. Using new technologies such as satellite imaging systems and tracking endangered species is effective in protecting the environment. In general, the use of future studies and new technologies in climate change in Iran can help the country to face climate challenges and move towards sustainable development and resistance to climate change. New technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT) can help to optimally and intelligently control the consumption of natural resources such as water, energy and soil, as well as reduce the negative effects of climate change. New technologies such as nanotechnology, energy storage, and smart energy systems increase the possibility of producing and using renewable energy. These technologies lead to a reduction in the use of fossil fuels and the emission of greenhouse gases. In general, technological advances in the field of climate change help to find the best solutions to adapt to these changes and lead to reducing their negative effects on societies and the environment.

Antecedents and Consequences of the Dominance of Technocracy in Futures Studies: A Qualitative Documentary Content Analysis

The present study aims to identify and analyze the antecedents and consequences of the domination of technocracy in futures studies and to explain its effects on philosophical, techno-scientific, managerial–organizational, and socio-cultural dimensions. This qualitative research employs a descriptive–analytical approach and is based on content analysis of scientific documents, articles, books, and dissertations related to the field. Data were collected through document review and note-taking and then analyzed using qualitative content and conceptual analysis methods. Findings indicate that philosophical, technological, managerial, and socio-cultural antecedents have gradually reduced the notion of the future to a technical and quantitative phenomenon. Consequently, outcomes such as the restriction of creativity, the dominance of technical predictivism, the decline in the use of qualitative methods, and the widening gap between technical elites and civil society have emerged. The study emphasizes that to preserve the interdisciplinary and critical nature of futures studies, it is essential to maintain a balance between quantitative data and human–cultural analyses. Furthermore, by proposing a conceptual model of antecedents and consequences, this study offers a novel framework for analyzing the phenomenon of technocracy in futures research. The results may serve as a basis for rethinking methodologies in futures studies and strengthening qualitative and interpretive approaches. Thus, the present research contributes to enriching the critical discourse of futures studies and enhancing its interdisciplinary capacities.
